Chapter 160 160: 4th Floor Welcoming Party V
The explosion bought him the time that he so desperately needed. He moved forwards, heading for the exit with a single minded focus, he really had no understanding of this floor, but this has not been any different from all he had experienced from the previous floors. Never has there been any sort of warning about what to expect on the floors, heck even if they were, the floors always ended up being extremely intense and in such a way that he had no choice but to always be active and on his toes about everything.
He got to the exit without problem, but even all good things had to come to an end as Cole was assaulted by a staccato of gun fire. Whoever was responsible was thankfully a bad shot as most of the bullets had sprayed the wall besides his head. Cole did not even turn back, quickly using [Fade] to vanish into thin air as he opened the door to the exit and tumbled out into ferocious and cold biting winds.
He smashed the door shut behind himself, ignoring the calls of \'Wait\' that he was hearing behind him. His wounds were healing, but way too slow and in such a manner that frankly speaking would see Cole bleeding to death before the hour was up. He really needed to find shelter as running around this floor with trigger happy swat teams in close proximity is not and will never be a good idea.
He suddenly found himself in a hallway that was larger than anything he has ever seen. He has been in colony simulations before so he knew exactly how indoor cities worked or looked, but this was something else. The hallway had a massive window…. if he could call it that as from one end of the…. street? all the way to the bend at the corner, the window showed a glimpse of the outside world. and since it was broken in many places and barely standing.
Cole could do nothing but endure the cold as a snow storm threw biting colds into the air and a massive helping of snow. Cole then remember the introduction that was given for this floor. In the end he was still in a building, just one whose proportions were so massive that it was a single city unto itself even though it was just a simple building.
Cole shivered then moved forwards, this really was an ambitious piece of architecture, but it was not something he wanted to spend his time admitting when his life could or rather was in danger. He moved down the street. Ignoring everything else but still pushing his domain and perception stat to the very limit of what he could possibly manage
And as he moved, Cole was making sure that a steady trickle of his energy was being funneled into his healing skill, boosting its effects. However, that was hard, it was like moving through waist high thick mud, but still Cole did not have a choice. He sheathes his sword as he rushed down the street, trading it for a rifle as he noticed the massive spelling for the word school on his left hand side. While the window was to his right.
The school itself was massive, making Cole know that he had not really seen everything the school had to offer, but ultimately regardless of what it has to offer, they were all paths that led to one things and one thing only, and that was death. And Cole had no plans of dying today.
He ignored everything else and picked up the speed, rushing forwards even harder as he got to the bend and rounded it only to find himself in a plaza with a thousand more zombies milling about. He paused his heart getting stuck in his throat for a moment as he took a step back, but ultimately there was no way to go but forward.
The plaza however seemed to be a major shopping or market area, there were a lot of stores and corners that someone could maneuver around and there were also vehicles, but there was no telling what sort of state those vehicles were in so think any one of them could be functional would be a terribly bad idea.
Never the less Cole moved to the left, making sure to hug the window/walls on some areas in case he needed to make a quick escape. But in the end none of that seemed to matter as all of the zombies seemed content to just ignore him, but even at that Cole was not going to be so unwary that he would make his way over to them. he quickly peeked out the destroyed windows, hoping to catch a glimpse of what\'s outside the building in order to see if perhaps leaving the building would not be for the best,
Cole\'s breath got caught in his throat at the sight that was in front of him. The winter storm aside, the thick fog was also not helping matters and beyond that was the fact that he was currently above a river of clouds and getting so close to the window had almost frozen him to death. He growled out in worry, this was a lot harder than he thought.
There was a loud bang from behind him as what seemed to flashlights pierced the gloom of the darkness. He ducked quickly, making sure to keep his awareness steady in case the zombies decided they would much rather prefer to snack on him now that a sound had been made to draw their attention. But there was no reaction, it was almost as if the zombies themselves could not be bothered with Cole…. A tasteless morsel…. A fact that he would most definitely argue about.
He noticed what seemed to be a pastry shop and quickly ducked into it, slinging his rifle over his back as he pulled out Black Malakai. Fade had come out of its duration, but ultimately if he wanted to navigate this plaza of zombies he would have to rely on every stealth like ability he could bring to the table.
He came face to face with a rotten face the moment he entered the pastry shop. He quickly slid his sword under the jaw of the zombie, not giving it enough time to react to his presence as he put it out of its misery. But then again perhaps that was a mistake on his part, all the hairs on his body stood up straight as if he just had an electrical current pass through his body. but Cole knew better, the feeling of someone or something breathing g down his neck was extremely powerful.
He turned to look out the open doors of the pastry shop, there he saw that every single zombie in the plaza had turned and they were looking right at him. Even the three other zombies that were still stuck in the pastry shop had turned to look at him/ safe to say Cole did not stand on ceremony as he rushed forwards and closed the doors, making sure to bolt and pin it, and then in that same vein he let down the blinds over the window, cursing when one of the blinds only came down half way.
That was when they all started moving, all the zombies as one rushed towards the store while the three that were already within the store itself rushed at Cole. He turned around and ducked under the leap of the first zombie, but that was barely enough as the undead slashed a claw down on his back, tearing the back of his neck open as it added to the other injuries on his body.
Cole did not have time to focus too much on the pain he was feeling as he let the zombie crash into one of the counters and rushed forwards in the same motion his sword pointed straight for the wide open jaws of one of the zombies. It went in without resistance killing the zombie for the second time as he turned with his blade still stuck in it to have the zombie\'s body serve as barrier against the third that had bull rushed him.
Once again Cole underestimated just how powerful, fast and resilient these zombies are. It smashed into the dead zombie and then subsequently had the body smash into Cole as he was thrown against a display case. His body was sturdy enough that he did not receive any other damage, but he felt weird, like he had been hit by a truck. It was as if the Zombie had multiplied its momentum as it moved and used all that kinetic force to smash into Cole.
It was at this point that Cole finally realized what he was dealing with. It was one thin g to deal with zombies and the apocalypse, but it was a whole other ball game when the zombies you were dealing with were superhuman with unique abilities attached to each and every single one of them…. this right here is what an apocalypse would look like if it happened to a universe that had super powers…. He was so fucked.
